The Metamorphosis of the Afro-Canadian Museum – Afromusée 🦋
We are in the cocoon… and the story continues
The Afro-Canadian Museum, lovingly known as the Afromusée, has entered a powerful time of transformation.
After 11 meaningful, vibrant and unforgettable years at 533 Ontario Street East in Montréal, the museum has now left this space for good — with gratitude, tenderness, and deep appreciation for all it allowed us to build and share.
Like a caterpillar sheltered in its cocoon, we have chosen to pause so we may renew our strength, deepen our foundations, and dream even more boldly for African and Afro-descendant communities, and for all those who journey with us.
This pause is not silence.
It is a breath — a sacred space of reflection, authenticity, creation, and hope — rooted in memory, dignity, Africa, and the future.
Within this cocoon, we are shaping a museum that will return even more vibrant, welcoming, deeply authentic and alive, honoring African histories, cultures, and voices in all their richness.
During this period, we continue our mission from our transitional home at:
Cité des Hospitalières
251 Avenue des Pins West, Montreal, QC H2W 1R5
Soon, the cocoon will open.
Soon, the butterfly will spread its wings.
We will return with renewed presence, radiant projects, and powerful creative energy, guided by Africa, by memory, and by the authentic beauty of African and diasporic cultures.
Thank you for walking with us through this time of metamorphosis.
Thank you for your patience, your trust, and your love.
The transformation is underway. And what is coming will be beautiful.
